On Wednesday, November 30th the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation welcomed best selling author Megan Abbott for Cocktails & Conversation at Alvin & Friends, with 60 people attending. The popular series of get togethers features well known authors in intimate conversation with host Prof. Amy Bass, an author and NRPLF Board member, giving participants a chance to hear first hand about their writing experience. Proceeds benefit the non-profit New Rochelle Public Library Foundation.
Abbott, winner of the coveted Edgar Award (among others), talked about the writing of her novels as well as writing for TV : She served as a staff writer on HBO’s The Deuce, and as co-creator, executive producer and show-runner of Dare Me, based upon her novel, for the USA Network and, internationally, Netflix. Her latest book The Turnout — a New York Times Bestseller and TODAY Show Read With Jenna Book Club pick – has also been optioned for the screen. Abbott thrilled the audience by offering a reading from her latest yet-to-be-published book Beware the Woman, coming next May – it was her first time sharing some of these pages with an audience.
Cocktails & Conversation is one of the NRPL Foundation’s signature events, designed to bring book lovers together. The evenings feature authors in a discussion moderated by Prof. Amy Bass, Ph.D., NRPL Foundation Board Member, historian and acclaimed author (One Goal: A Coach, A Team and the Game That Brought A Divided Town Together).
