GUARDIAN AWARD:
Established in 2019, honors prominent individuals whose lives have been devoted to protecting fundamental principles upon which the strength of American democracy rests: defending liberty and first amendment rights; and championing knowledge and unfettered access to information.
HONOREES:
THE GUARDIAN AWARD will be presented to three champions in the fight against Book Banning.
NANCY PAULSEN, President and Publisher of Nancy Paulsen Books, Penguin Inc.; JACQUELINE WOODSON, Writer of books for children and young adults; EMMA STRAUB, novelist and bookseller, owner of Books Are Magic in Brooklyn, NY
COMMUNITY HERO AWARD:
CHRIS SELIN, PRESIDENT OF THE NEW ROCHELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION for the past 9 years, Former member of City Council and active volunteer for many community organizations.
TOM GEOFFINO, DIRECTOR OF THE NEW ROCHELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY for the past 18 years who will be retiring in 2024. Tom has made a dramatic difference to the scope of library services and physical appearance of NRPL.
