About the Painting
This Kitten Library print is taken from the original painting Street Scene, featuring three iconic New Rochelle buildings, with interpretation of the Huguenot Children’s Library at its center. The piece was created as part of the Queen Kitty City exhibition at the Queen City Art Gallery at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.
Inspired by the picture books of Nicky’s childhood – especially Richard Scarry’s Busy Town – she imagined a playful New Rochelle filled with cats going about their day. The children’s library felt like the perfect building to feature, given its connection to picture books and the undeniable fact that cats and books go together.
About the Artist
Inspired by her love of Mexican folk art, cats, and children’s picture books, Nicky’s colorful paintings combine whimsy, humor, and vibrant color. She works across a range of mediums, including acrylic markers, water color and collage. Originally from the UK, Nicky now lives by the sea in Norwalk, CT. When she’s not painting, she can usually be found playing fetch with her cat Mac, having a cup of tea with her chickens, or climbing rocks indoors and out.
